Salv\u00e0 Ort\u00edn Arquitectes is a studio specialized in architecture, territory<\/a> and public space<\/a> projects, which develops proposals that relate territory<\/a>, landscape, city<\/a> and architecture from a critical and sensitive perspective with the context. With projects, competitions<\/a> and research at different scales, the studio works from Mallorca and Barcelona approaching urban interventions in public space, landscape studies, urban regeneration projects, facilities and housing<\/a> located in the Mediterranean context.<\/p>\n The relationship between architecture, city, territory and landscape is one of the main axes of the studio’s work. In the field of residential architecture<\/a>, the studio seeks to generate flexible and efficient spaces, approaching both new single-family and collective construction as well as rehabilitation from an honest understanding of materiality. Each proposal prioritizes natural light and ventilation, comfort and bioclimatic design, incorporating passive construction strategies specifically adapted to the climates of Mallorca and Barcelona to optimize the energy efficiency and metabolism of contemporary housing.<\/p>\n This sensitive look towards domestic living expands and connects with the territory when urban environment is understood as a complex ecosystem. From a multidisciplinary perspective, we approach landscape architecture, urban planning and public space<\/a> to transform collective environments through urban regeneration projects committed to local memory and identity. This large-scale line of work is validated and consolidated through active participation in architectural competitions, where the firm has a track record of excellence recognized with three first prizes in the international competition<\/a> for young architects Europan: Europan 14 in Platja de Palma (Agora 4.8), Europan 15 in Palma (Beginning at the end) and the most recent Europan 17 in Chiva (Breathing back). These successes, added to distinctions such as the AJAC IX Award, have also allowed us to contribute our perspective to decision-making as members of juries in recent architectural competitions (Europan 18, Pla\u00e7a Major de Palma).<\/p>\n As the conceptual and theoretical engine that sustains all the practice of the studio, we maintain a constant link with the academic world and university research linked to the UPC. This line of research focuses critically on extractive landscapes and material ecologies, exploring the design of extractive and post-extractive spaces and their territorial integration<\/a>. Taking as a central case study the sandstone quarries of Mallorca \u2014thesis research and dissemination embodied in specialized publications and books\u2014, we analyse the void and matter as an essential part of the identity of the Mediterranean landscape. Our practice is not understood as the imposition of a form, but as a careful reading of pre-existences.
